Server on Linux

Important

Before completing these deployment steps, please review the system requirements for a SAS Enterprise Session Monitor installation on Linux.

Note

The following instructions will assume a target installation directory of /opt/sas/esm

Obtain Installation Assets

The appropriate SAS Enterprise Session Monitor Server installation package for your Linux operating system can be obtained from the Boemska Downloads site or by contacting SAS Technical Support.

Once downloaded, untar the archive to a suitable temporary location. The installer is ~230 MB uncompressed.

Install the Server

  1. Change directory to the destination of the unpacked installation package and execute the setup.sh script to start the SAS Enterprise Session Monitor Server Installation Wizard.
  2. You will now be presented with a License Agreement. You must agree to the terms set out in the license agreement in order to continue with the installation. Accept by pressing 'y' and Enter.
  3. You will now be presented with a choice of environment size. Most environments will be a Small deployment. Accept by pressing '1' and Enter. See the Server sizing guidelines for further information.
  4. Now select the database that server will use. Unless instructed by SAS Technical Support, select the Embedded option. Accept by pressing '1' and Enter.
  5. The default Embedded database port is 15432. Unless this port is taken by another application running on the local machine. Press Enter.
  6. Unless instructed by SAS Technical Support, do not modify the Database URL. Proceed by pressing Enter.
  7. The Database username and Database password are used by the Java application to connect to the database. In most cases, it is sufficient to change the only password. You should make a note of the value that you have set this to for your records. Proceed to the next steps by pressing Enter.
  8. Specify the target install location for the SAS Enterprise Session Monitor Server ensuring that sufficient disk space is available. The installer will automatically create an esm-server subfolder within the selected destination folder. Press Enter.
  9. You may specify the target installation location for the embedded database binaries if you wish for them to be placed outside of the Server installation directory. Otherwise, accept the defaults. Press Enter.
  10. You may specify the target installation location for the embedded database tablespace if you wish for it to be placed outside of the Server installation directory. Otherwise, accept the defaults. Press Enter.
  11. You may specify the target installation location for the embedded database logs if you wish for them to be placed outside of the Server installation directory. Otherwise, accept the defaults. Press Enter.
  12. Configure the ports you would like the SAS Enterprise Session Monitor Server Web Application to use when accepting incoming connections. The default ports are recommended, but may be changed if there is a conflict with another application running on the local machine. If you want to use default ports, Press Enter four times to accept recommended ports.
  13. Choose a Username and Password for the SAS Enterprise Session Monitor Web Application Administrative User. This is used to access the administrative functionality of SAS Enterprise Session Monitor via the web browser. Keep these details safe. Continue by pressing Enter.
  14. The installation process will begin. This will take less than a minute to complete.

Apply the License
